This webinar, with Dr. Shigeto Kawahara (Associate Professor at the Keio Institute of Cultural and Linguistic Studies) investigates the differences in properties of Pokémon names (in Japanese) before and after “evolution” in order to shed light on factors in sound pronunciation (i.e., phonological theory) that are cognitively relevant to speakers of Japanese.

Co-hosted by Prof. Jennifer L. Smith, UNC Department of Linguistics, and the Carolina Asia Center
