The Struggle of Jihad – with AbdelRahman Murphy
October 29, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
As the fourth lecture in UNC MSA’s Islamophobia Teach-in Series, please join Br. AbdelRahman Murphy for an in-depth discussion on the definitions and misconceptions of the Islamic concept of jihad. Murphy will focus on how these misconceptions perpeturate Islamophobia and the criminalization of Muslim identities. Also, Murphy will detail how Muslims experience and understand the term jihad as a nuanced struggle in their faith in an introspective and extrospective manner. This lecture is sponsored by UNC MSA, UNC MONSOON, Carolina Center for the Middle East and Muslim Civilization, and the Carolina Asia Center.
