Southeast Asian Language Workshop: Thai

April 19, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Come to get an introduction to Thai, with instructor Dr. Rungsima Kullapat, a research associate of the Carolina Asia Center.

Thai is a tonal language spoken in Thailand and among Thai diaspora communities, with its own alphabet. This workshop welcomes all language learners, no matter what their skill level, but will target those with no previous experience in Thai. Ajarn Rungsima will whet your appetite to learn more of the language by teaching key expressions and some linguistic features.

Dr. Rungsima Kullapat is a researcher on Thai history, culture, and cultural preservation, affiliated with the Carolina Asia Center, University of North Carolina. In 2016, her dissertation “Living Heritage through Literature: The Development of Pachit Oraphim Cultural Routes” received the Excellent Award from the National Research Council of Thailand. She has worked with many Thai institutions, such as the National Film Archive and the Thai National Research Fund, on cultural preservation projects around the country and especially in the south.

This event is free and open to the public, and will be held virtually over Zoom.
