On the Building of Islamic Societies from Below since 1800

April 7, 2016 @ 5:15 pm - 6:45 pm

A lecture by Francis Robinson, CBE, Professor of the History of South Asia at the University of London.

Over the past two centuries, Islamic knowledge has come to be more vigorously and more widely disseminated than ever before, despite the attempts of both colonial and national rulers in the Muslim world to rebuild their societies on Western models. This talk, by one of the world’s leading experts in the field, will explore the rebuilding of Islamic societies from below since 1800 in the context of South Asia, and link it to developments elsewhere in the Islamic World.
