An Evening of Kathakali: Lecture, Demonstration, and Performance

Join the Department of Music and Carolina Asia Center for an evening of Kathakali! We are excited to welcome Dr. Kaladharan Viswanath, emeritus of the Kerala Kalamandalam University for a lecture on Kathakali, as well as Manoj Kumar and his disciple, Akhila, our Kathakali performers.
Here is a brief program:
3:00 – 4:15 PM: Kathakali Lecture-Demonstration
4:30 – 7:30 PM: Public application of costume and make-up
7:30 PM: a pre-performance lecture on Kathakali’s history, development, and aesthetics, as well as on the excerpt being played by Dr. Kaladharan Viswanath
8:00 – 9:30 PM: Kathakali Performance by Manoj Kumar and his disciple, Akhila
