Hindustani Classical Vocal Music Lecture-Demonstration

There will be a lecture-demonstration on Hindustani classical vocal music at UNC on September 15 at the Genome Sciences Building, featuring renowned vocalist M. Balachandra Prabhu. M. Balachandra Prabhu will be describing the theory of ragas, and giving examples of different ragas and genres of classical music of South Asia. He will also discuss the relationships between music theory and South Asian culture and spirituality. Balachandra Prabhu studied with the late Pandit Shripati Padigar who was a disciple of the late Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.
