Prof. Susan Shirk is a distinguished professor at the University of California, San Diego. She served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State during the Clinton administration.  Susan has recently published “OVERREACH: How China Derailed its Peaceful Rise” (Oxford UP, 2022). The book is the winner of the Lionel Gelber Prize for the best English language book on international affairs awarded by the University of Toronto.

 

Kaiser Kuo is a prominent Chapel Hill-based China expert and former member of the rock band TANG DYNASTY. He is the co-founder of the Sinica Podcast and editor-at-large of the China Projecthttps://thechinaproject.com/series/sinica/

 

These two scholars will be in conversation with Prof. Klaus Larres, Richard M. Krasno Distinguished Professor in the Department of History at UNC-Chapel Hill.
