Cultural Kitchen: Opor Ayam and Kolak from Indonesia

August 3, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The Carolina Asia Center joins with the other UNC-Duke Area Studies Centers and Carolina Navigators to host a free, virtual Cultural Kitchen series for NC educators and community members this summer.

Registration Link: go.unc.edu/culturalkitchen

In each session, attendees will learn how to make a dish from a different region of the world while learning about the culture of the featured region. Experts from each region will be leading the cooking sessions and will provide registered participants with a list of ingredients to follow in advance. All events will take place from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

For our session on August 3 focused on Asia, our chef Mega Puspita will cook two traditional dishes from Java, Indonesia: opor ayam (a kind of slow-cooked chicken) and kolak (a sweet dish made from pumpkin). She will not only show participants how to make these dishes, but also talk about Indonesian culture, how these dishes fit into religious holiday celebrations, and answer questions from participants.
