China under Zero-Covid and the Start of Xi’s Third Term: A Look from Inside

April 5, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

The Triangle Institute for Security Studies and the Carolina Asia Center cordially invite you to join us for a discussion and reception with Dr. Jessica Liao, assistant professor in the School of Public and International Affairs at North Carolina State University and Wilson China Fellow 2020-2021.

Dr. Liao will give a talk entitled China under Zero-Covid and the Start of Xi’s Third Term: A Look from Inside, followed by Q&A and a catered reception on Wednesday, April 5th, 5:30-7:30pm, in Room 1009 of the FedEx Global Education Center at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Dr. Liao spent the past 2.5 years in Beijing. During 2022, she served as economic development specialist at the US embassy in Beijing, covering China’s relations with BRI countries. Her research focuses on China’s foreign policy, China–Southeast Asia relations, and the rise of China and its regional and global impact.

At this event, she will share her observations on PRC’s domestic political dynamics from her interactions with PRC contacts and third country diplomats, and her experience living in zero-COVID China and its political implications.

In-person attendance at this event will be limited to facilitate discussion and conversation among TISS and Carolina Asia Center faculty and graduate student affiliates.

Please RSVP here, to reserve your space.
