Conversations, Thursday, August 31, 2023 @FedEx GEC room 3024

The Carolina Asia Center will be hosting a group conversation with students and faculty on Thursday from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at GEC 3024 to help each other by sharing emotions and providing support in the wake of Monday’s devastating incident. Open only to UNC students, faculty, staff, and other UNC affiliates.

Director Ji-Yeon Jo will host faculty guests including Conghe Song (Chair and Professor, Geography Department), Li-ling Hsiao (Associate Dean and Director of First-Year Curricula and Associate Professor, Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies), and Lini Ge Polin (Teaching Associate Professor and Diversity Liaison, Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies).

Susan Chung from CAPS will join us to facilitate conversations and discuss strategies and coping mechanisms to care for yourself. Our conversations will center around the experiences and impact on our Asian-identified members of the UNC communities.

This event is organized with the CAPS and coordinated with Asian American Center, International Students and Scholars Services, and the Office of Senior Associate Dean of Social Sciences and Global Programs. Many thanks to other partners on campus who have extended their supports to us during this difficult time.

We express our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and students of our colleague, Prof. Zijie Yan.
