APSI Fall 2016 Speaker Series: The Politics of Remembering the Korean War: Blockbuster Films, History, and Social Memory

September 28, 2016 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Speaker: Prof. Namhee Lee (UCLA, Modern Korean History)

Many South Korean blockbuster films released in the 1990s and 2000s probe the “public memory” at the heart of South Korean national identity. This talk will focus on the ways in which the cinematic rewriting of history anticipate, participate in, and/or resist the dominant narratives of Korean society, especially that of the Korean War.

Reception to follow. Event details.
