Becky Butler received her Ph.D. in linguistics from Cornell University in 2014. Her research focuses on languages of mainland Southeast Asia, with particular attention to Bunong, a Mon-Khmer language spoken in Cambodia and Vietnam. She conducted her fieldwork in Asia, and she currently works with a number of Southeast Asian refugee communities right here in North Carolina. In conjunction with the CAC, she consults on special projects involving Southeast Asia in an effort to increase the visibility of Southeast Asians and Southeast Asian studies at UNC.
