The Triangle East Asia Consortium (TEAC) was established in 1976 to promote dialogue and collaboration between East Asian studies faculty at the three major research universities in the Triangle Area: Duke University, North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. TEAC has since expanded to include East Asian specialists and other interested scholars from across North Carolina and the Southeast.

Faculty at the three Triangle universities take turns in organizing the TEAC annual conference. Financial support is provided by the three founding universities and by the U.S. Department of Education Title VI grant. The Asian/Pacific Studies Institute at Duke University also provides administrative support for TEAC.
